The Canvas Classic Quizzes tool allows you to create and administer online assessments and surveys. Despite the quizzes title, this tool allows you to create graded and nongraded quizzes, exams, and surveys.
What types of quizzes can you create?
The quizzes tool allows you to create four different quiz types. These can be easily categorized into graded and nongraded options.
Graded Options
- Graded Quizzes are the most common quiz type as they allow you to create and administer quizzes and exams for a grade. When you create a graded quiz/exam, Canvas creates a column in your Gradebook, and a link to the quiz/exam will also appear on your assignments page. Use this quiz type for summative quizzes, midterms, and exams.
- Graded Surveys give students credit for completing a survey. Because there are no wrong answers in a survey, students get full credit if they complete the survey or no credit if they do not. Surveys can be taken anonymously. Use this quiz type to collect information and incentivize/mandatory surveys
Nongraded Options
- Practice Quizzes allow you to administer a quiz that is scored according to point values, but not graded. The students' scores on practice quizzes are not recorded in the gradebook. Use this quiz type for practice quizzes or formative assessments.
- Ungraded Surveys allow you to get feedback from students. Remember that any survey can be conducted anonymously. Use this quiz type for any anonymous survey or to collect feedback.
