Canvas works best when your technology, your browsing applications, and plug-ins are all up-to-date. Before getting started with your online coursework, check to be sure that your computer is ready for online learning.

Browser Compatibility

Internet browsers are an important factor in making sure everything works in your online environment during the semester. Canvas supports the latest two version releases of every browser, but it has been our experience that Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are the most compatible with Canvas.

Browser compatibility is an ongoing issue, but the best way to stay ahead is to be proactive and always update to the newest version of whatever browser you are using. Required Plug-Ins

To use all the features of Canvas, you may be required to download some plug-ins to your computer. If you just downloaded a new browser, you can skip this step, because the Internet browser should be up to date with plug-ins. Here is a list of plug-ins that you might need. If you are missing one of these, you may also need to tell your browser to allow plug-ins.

Adobe Reader - Required to read PDF files. 

 Download: Java Links to an external site.

Java - A free program that makes it possible for many communication features to work effectively. Without Java, Chat applications will not work in Canvas. You may choose to install Java now, or wait to see if your instructor uses features within Canvas that require the download.
