Global Navigation
After logging into Canvas, the first screen you encounter is the dashboard, or Canvas landing page. Together with a global menu and a notifications sidebar, this page acts as a central hub, connecting you to every part of Canvas. You can customize this view, but before you do, here is some information to help you manage and get oriented to the dashboard.

- The Global Navigation Menu – This menu is persistent throughout Canvas, providing quick access to global and course tools at any time. Navigation items include:

- Account — Your information in Canvas. From here you can customize your user preferences including your profile and notification settings.
- Dashboard — The opening view of Canvas. From here you can access your current and favorited courses.
- Courses — A complete list of all of your courses during your time at UNC. To see everything, select Courses, and then All Courses.
- Calendar — All of your course calendars. From here, you can select and use your own personal calendar or any of your course calendars.
- Inbox — Also known as Conversations, this email-like tool allows you to exchange messages inside of Canvas with your classmates and instructors.
- Groups — This selection allows you to see all and navigate to any of your groups in Canvas.
- Support — This selection provides options to a wide array of Canvas resources and technical support.
- The Dashboard – When you open Canvas, this is the primary view - your landing page. From this screen you can access all of your courses using course cards or by a customized view.
- Global Sidebar - This sidebar shows you a summary of what's coming up, recent feedback, and what you have to do in all of your courses. You can also view your grades in all of your courses from the sidebar.
