Browser Compatibility
Internet browsers are an important factor in making sure everything works in your online environment during the semester. Canvas supports the latest two version releases of every browser, but it has been our experience that Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are the most compatible with Canvas.

Browser compatibility is an ongoing issue, but the best way to stay ahead is to be proactive and always update to the newest version of whatever browser you are using. Required Plug-Ins
To use all the features of Canvas, you may be required to download some plug-ins to your computer. If you just downloaded a new browser, you can skip this step, because the Internet browser should be up to date with plug-ins. Here is a list of plug-ins that you might need. If you are missing one of these, you may also need to tell your browser to allow plug-ins.
Adobe Reader - Required to read PDF files.

Download:Java - A free program that makes it possible for many communication features to work effectively. Without Java, Chat applications will not work in Canvas. You may choose to install Java now, or wait to see if your instructor uses features within Canvas that require the download.

As part of your UNC enrollment, you have access to the following software resources.
Office 365 and OneDrive Links to an external site. - Office 365 is a cloud service that provides access to the following Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more. OneDrive is a cloud storage service that allows you to save your files in the cloud so that you can access them from multiple devices. Students can download Office 365 and OneDrive by following the directions provided at UNC's Office 365 web page. You can also use these applications in a web browser.
Apporto Virtual Lab Links to an external site. - A web-based virtual computer lab that gives you remote access to UNC software from any device. Follow the link here and then the login instructions to get started with Apporto Virtual Lab.
