CANVAS SETUP How to Set Notifications

Notifications can be helpful, but only if you receive them about something you want to know. If you want to use Canvas notifications on your mobile devices, this guide will help you manage them.

Managing Notifications

Select Student Notifications Notifications are quick alerts coming from Canvas to an external email or as a text message. Canvas can send notifications of course activities, including announcements and grades. Turning notifications off stops them coming to an external email or phone, but does not stop them from appearing in your Canvas course.

Helpful notifications from Canvas include course announcements, assignment reminders, discussion and group interactions, meeting changes, and course updates. All Canvas users can manage their notifications in their accounts. To get to notifications, go first to your account (see image). Then select Notifications.

How do I set Canvas notifications?

Default notifications are set in all accounts. To change the defaults, go to Notifications, select either account level or course level Settings, and then for each Course Activity, select one of four notification preferences: 1) Notify immediately, 2) Daily summary, 3) Weekly summary, or 4) Notifications off.
