Using Rubrics
There are THREE ways you can use rubrics in your courses:
Rubrics
- Rubrics as a reference. Use rubrics to help students understand exactly what you are expecting. You do not have to use the rubric for grading.
- Rubrics for grading. Use rubrics as a grading tool when you are grading in SpeedGrader. Simply click on the rubric rating for each criterion, and Canvas will calculate total points earned based on how you set it up. While you can always change a score, if you like the calculated score, that score feeds into the Gradebook. When grading with the rating scale, the tool also provides an opportunity to comment on each criterion.
- Rubrics for providing feedback. Use rubrics as a grading tool, but instead of using the rubric ratings, tell Canvas you would rather focus on comments for grading. You can still assign points to each criterion and award points manually when grading, but this approach elevates commenting over scoring.
