Instructional Design Module Overview: Getting Started with Canvas

Welcome! If you are new to Canvas or want a refresher, you are in the right place! This module will prepare you to begin your work in Canvas.

How to use this module

We have broken this module into four sections for you to move through in order. Since this is a self-paced course, you can choose to do the entire module at once or in smaller sections.

The four sections of this module include:

  1. Orientation to Canvas - we will look at your overall Canvas account and ways to personalize it
  2. Student-Instructor Engagement - we will look at the elements in your course that support student equity and inclusion
  3. Student-Content Engagement  - we will look at how to build modules and the many tools that integrate into modules
  4. Peer-to-Peer Engagement - we will look at how to set up groups and other ways to promote the social elements of learning

  Choose when to use the different views within Canvas.

  Create your global profile and personal settings.

  Identify the integrated tools that are available through Canvas.

 Select the appropriate tools to use in Canvas.

  Choose publishing options to meet course needs.
