Working with the Home Page

IDD Working with the Home Page

Even though the Home Page is the first thing you see, it is the last place to make changes. The best time to work on you Home page is after putting your course together.

Get to Know the Online Classroom Template Home Page

This video will address how to use the template Home page and where you can and cannot make changes.

    DOs and DON'Ts

    • DO add your Course Goals in the space provided on the home page.

    • DO add your syllabus, course schedule, and course text information to the syllabus page so that students can link to that information from the home page navigation.

    • DO make use of the Course FAQs discussion and provide directions to your students about how to use this Q&A forum. If you do not want to use the Course FAQs, you can change this link, directing students to another part of the course.
    • DON'T try to change the name of a module or its dates on the home page.

    • DON'T try to change existing quick link dates without IDD's help. We have set the dates of the template to correspond with each week of the term, and these dates trigger which module lists show up on the home page. If you want different dates, IDD can help you.

    • DON'T forget to hide or delete the "MUST READ: Online Classroom Template" announcement. It is intended for you; not for your students. Hide or delete the announcement in "Announcements."

    Warning: Quick Links are Locked

Because the code for the quick links is complex, the quick link feature is "locked" on the home page, meaning you cannot manipulate the dates yourself. If you are copying your course into a new term, you will want to have the dates reset. Contact instructional.design@unco.edu, specify the course and any special instructions about your dates, and we will re-sync the quick links within one business day.
