A Dangerous Position

Being in the bottom position of mount is dangerous for many reasons:

Vulnerability to Strikes: The top opponent can easily deliver powerful strikes, such as punches or elbows, to the head and body. These strikes can be more forceful due to gravity and the leverage gained from the mount position. Additionally, the person in bottom mount lacks the reach and leverage to deliver significant strikes against the top-mounted opponent. The opponent can easily strike you, but you can’t strike them.

Limited Mobility and Control: The person on the bottom has very limited mobility and ability to control the opponent. This disadvantage makes it hard to defend against attacks or to execute escapes.

Risk of Submissions: The top opponent has a prime position to attempt various submissions, like armlocks or chokes. These submissions can be more easily set up and executed due to the control and leverage the top position provides. This is not something you would typically encounter in a self-defense situation, but the danger does exist.

Psychological Disadvantage: Being mounted can be psychologically daunting, as it's a dominant position for the opponent. This can lead to panic or hasty decisions, further compromising the position of the person on the bottom.

Energy Drain: Struggling from the bottom mount requires a lot of energy, especially if the opponent is heavy or skilled in maintaining control. This can lead to fatigue, making it even more challenging to escape or defend.
