Orientation: Best Practice Tips for Posting in ASL
Tips . . .
Below you will find best practice tips for submitting assignments in ASL. Please make a habit of incorporating these tips into all your online communication during our time together.
ASL submission guidelines*
- Your face and hands should be clearly seen (push long sleeves up above your wrists).
- Avoid gum, gloves, or other items that obstruct message production while recording.
- Try to find a solid background and reduce distractions in your environment as much as possible. We know this isn’t possible for everyone, but we ask you to do the best you can.
- Record your video in landscape orientation. (NO VERTICAL VIDEOS!)
- Stand or sit in a chair and capture your signing space from the torso up.
- Make sure your video is well-lit and the camera is at the correct recording height to capture your signing space. The light should be in front of you, not behind you. Do not stand in front of a window.
- Keep videos to 4 minutes or less.
*While we ask you to take into consideration your background and appearance so your message is not obstructed, we also want to remind you that posting and engaging in dialogue is how you get the most out of your learning environment. Don’t wait for perfect recording conditions if it means you are going to fall behind in your coursework.
